So the first day of the spring National Worship Leader’s Conference is in the books an what a great day it was. This morning I drove through the Pennsylvania countryside and I marveled at a landscape that is so different from my own. Then I went to the host church where I joined an amazing panel to speak to worship leaders about the role of choirs in the church. I heard some amazing things:
Hospitality in the Bible literally means “lover of strangers”
Choirs are growing everywhere BUT in the church
When musicians are acting like the world (devil) it is because they are walking in the flesh, not the spirit.
People need to feel like you care.
Find ways to spend more relaxed, unhurried time in conversation with people that you care about.
Most likely what brought you joy in 4th grade is what brings you joy today.
Give your choir nuggets of truth about worship, regularly.
These tips come to from Ray Jones, Scott and Vonda Dyer and Stan Endicott
My tips were on building a choir and one that was tweeted out from a participant was: Your largest choir is the one in the pews. What are you doing to reenforce their value in worship?
This great session was followed by worship lead by Vertical Church and Phillips, Craig and ,Dean. I actually got to spend some time with P, C, and D. We talked about worship and then spent a half hour or more discussing the challenges of the pastor/worship leader relationship. It was great conversation that will be continued tomorrow when Scotty Smith and I teach a class on that topic.
I met wonderful people today and had a great time. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for tomorrow. I hope you can come to one of the remaining conferences this year.
I will blog again tomorrow. Blessings to you all.
