Wow, it has been an amazing summer. God has blessed me and The Worship Doctor ministry in so many ways. We have finished recording our first DVD teaching series on congregational worship and I am working on a companion study book. Both of these should release in January. The Indiegogo crowd funding campaign we launched in support of this effort did not meet its goal, but I am extremely grateful to the individuals who contributed and whose money is paving the way to reaching out to churches in need of worship renewal.
I will head out to a couple of churches who have invited me to come and teach on congregational worship renewal in the coming months. The work at these churches will center on my work in congregational worship renewal, specifically the role of the congregation and how congregation members can find new ways to connect to God in worship. I will also be working with their choirs and bands to rethink worship leadership and the role of the arts in worship.
I have also had the pleasure of teaching at the National Worship Leaders conferences in Pennsylvania and in Kansas City as I am sure you followed on my Twitter feed. NWLC California is coming up in a couple of weeks and I cannot wait to rejoin my fellow teachers as we spread the word about how God is working through worship in churches across the globe. Also, NWLC is coming back to Texas and I am very excited about that. I am very thankful to Chuck Fromm and Suzie Stablein and everyone at Worship Leader Magazine for their belief in me and this ministry.
Most of you may know that I serve in a United Methodist Church in Sugar Land, Texas. You may not know that I am actively involved in the worship of the Texas Annual Conference. This summer I accepted the position of Worship Consultant for the Texas Annual Conference 2014. I am leading an amazing group of church leaders in planning and developing the worship services for the next annual conference. I am very grateful to Bishop Janice Huie and Assistant to the Bishop B. T. Williamson for believing in me. I am also the Chair of the Passionate Worship Committee as we try to reach into churches who need help with their worship and worship resourcing.
Why am I sharing all of this? Because I believe that God is at work in a major way in the worship of the church. As I travel and meet new worship leaders, I am amazed by how many of them are saying the same things about worship, the purpose of worship, the goals of worship, how God is present in worship, etc. All of these people are saying similar things, and they are not the same things we were saying as little as 10 years ago. The Holy Spirit is moving and I am thrilled to be a part of that movement. God is not just moving in my life and ministry, He is moving in the lives and ministries of worship leaders and churches around the world.
If you or your church would like to experience God in a new way through the worship of your church, what are you waiting for? Let me know and let’s ask God to start the renewal in your congregation. God is at work and we can all have what the Holy Spirit is spreading.
1. Ask God to direct your search for the renewal you are seeking for the worship in your church.
2. Go to my contact page and send me an email or give me a call. You can go to my Facebook page or follow me on Twitter. Let’s work together!
3. Go to the NWLC website and register for one of the conferences at a location near you. You will not believe the wonderful experience of worshiping and learning with leaders from around the world.
Whatever you do, don’t just sit there and think that if you just keep doing what you are doing, if it is not working, that all of sudden it will bear fruit. Step up to the plate and start making the changes that will bring life back into your worship. It is not as hard as you might think, it shouldn’t cost you a lot of money, and the change will be dramatic.
